Introduction [Gen-003]
The purpose of these notes is merely to put on record the information available to the compiler at present (1984) regarding the genealogy of the Clontarf, Dublin, branch of the ó Tuathaláins (Toolans).
Attention has been concentrated on the Clontarf branch of the family. Some other branches are mentioned to indicate their connection with it but are not dealt with in detail.
It is hoped that these notes will be sufficient to give present and future generations of the family some idea of their roots and that they will serve as a starting point for anyone who has the inclination and the time to delve deeper into the genealogy of the family.
The information regarding the Clontarf branch is reasonably accurate but details of other branches are not necessarily so in all respects, or comprehensive: time was not available to research the other branches in depth. The information given should be adequate, however, to identify these branches,
An Index has not been provided but the List of Contents which indicates the main families and subjects mentioned in the notes should help the reader to find a particular item without too much trouble.
The information in the appendices regarding the various branches of the D'Arcy family was compiled in an unsuccessful attempt to discover a connection between these branches and the Enniskerry Road D'Arcys. It has been included in these notes for record purposes: it may prove useful to some other researcher.
