This Web Site
My father, Liam ó Tuathaláin (1916 - 2002) self-published The Genealogy of the ó Tuathaláins in 1985. During the previous year, he had sat for hours on end at the breakfast room table, pounding away at his portable typewriter, recording the details of his research for posterity. Together, we made about 12 copies of the resultant 250 or so pages on the Xerox in my office, which my father then had professionally bound. A copy was give to each family member - his siblings and mine - and each is a highly regarded family treasure to this day.
Always ready to make his knowledge available to others, and as an expression of gratitude for the resources and assistance he had found there over the years, Liam donated a copy (or possibly two) of the finished work to the National Library in Dublin. It is in that spirit that his work is being published here.
Liam himself is the originator of this web site. My contribution is simply to apply the available technology - like the Xerox machine, way back - to increase the reach and the durability of his efforts for the current and future generations. The few and minor additions I have made in the process are clearly indicated, as are pointers to additional material, which has been discovered or is simply more easily available since the original research was conducted.
The Digitisation Goals outline the steps taken to preserve the content for future use. Moderate SEO (search engine optimisation) makes it better findable today. Feel free to share this site or individual pages on social media or to link to the content on your own web site. For citation purposes, the author of all content here is Liam ó Tuathaláin and the original year of publication is 1985.
My role here is that of technical enabler. I have neither the resources nor the knowledge to answer questions related to the original content. Should you have important insights or additional information, please contact website@toolan.de to discuss if and how they could sensibly be added to this site.
