Killina (Tulsk) Cemetery, Co. Roscommon [Gen-017]

According to Tom Devanny, Killina was the burial place of the Toolans of Cloonyquin for many generations. However, there are few headstones in the older section of the cemetery and none of these belongs to the Toolans.

One headstone bears the following inscriptions:
In loving memory of Thomas Devaney, Cloonyguin who died 25th March, 1953, His wife Bridget who died 9th May, 1966 and their only son, Michael Patrick who died 26th January, 1926, aged 13 years.

Another bears the following inscription:
In loving memory of William Devanney, Clooniquinn, died 1st August, 1949. His wife, Elizabeth, died 1st September, 1971.

There are two fairly modern headstones relating to Toolans:
Sarah Toolan, Ballybeg, Tulsk, died 15th April, 1954.
Winifred Toolan, Killina, died 5th April, 1950.

There are two headstones relating to the Kellys of Cloonyquin:
(1) Mary Ellen Kelly, died 17th August, 1961 and her husband, Michael Kelly, who died 31st March, 1978.
(2) Thomas Kelly, Cloonyquin, who died 18th February, 1968, and Mary Kelly, his wife, who died 22nd November, 1972.

The Kellys are mentioned solely because they lived in Cloonyquin.

The base of one headstone bears the inscription Erected by her dear parents Thomas and Bridget Carney: the headstone itself is missing. An old headstone nearby bears a name which might be "Carney".
