Dear Mr O'Tuathalain

I refer to your letter of 14 May 1984 in above. As I indicated in my earlier letter the Land Commission is not a Public Records Office and does not have the staff and accommodation to cater for private research. The Rules of the Land Commission are very specific in setting out the categories of persons to whom documents and information may be made available. Nevertheless assistance is given wherever possible to those engaged in research.

Regarding the query in your earlier letter all the Estate papers for the lands of Knottown have now been examined and there is no record of any sale to a person by the name of Codd. A considerable amount of time has already been spent on this enquiry and I regret that the Land Commission cannot be of any further assistance.

I can only suggest again that the General Valuation Office, Ely Place,
Dublin 2 may be of some assistance to you in this matter,

Yours faithfully,

G Fogarty
