The Quinns of St. Joseph's Terrace, Fairview, Dublin [Gen-030]

Maureen McGinn, only daughter of W.F. Toolan and Margaret ("Daisy") D'Arcy, provided the following information in October, 1984.

Aunt Mary Ann Codd ("tall, thin and with black hair and black clothes"), spinster from Knottown was an aunt of W.F. Toolan and of the Quinns of St. Joseph's Tce. She was alive when Maureen was eight or nine years old.

Margaret Codd, known as Aunt Maggie, married a Quinn named Tom (most likely) or Maurice. They had four children: Josephine who married Jack Delaney (no children), Gret (spinster), Thomas who died young and was not married, and Murty.

Murty was in the National Army, probably a Sergeant Major, in its early years and then emigrated to the USA. On his return after many years he married May Tutty. They had one child, Thomas (also called "Sonny") who married Dolores Hackett. They have three children and live in Tallaght, Dublin (1984).

May Tutty was a qualified nurse and worked in Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin, and later in St. Vincent's Hospital. She had a brother who had a large shoe shop (or factory) in Naas, Co. Kildare. May was killed in a traffic accident accident at the corner of Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, and Clontarf Road, Dublin.

Before moving to No. 4 St. Joseph's Terrace, Fairview, the Quinns lived in Dalkey (Convent Road?), Co. Dublin. Shortly after they moved to Fairview, the father died.

Gret and Josie were boarders at the Convent of the St. Louis nuns in Monaghan after their father died.

Dr. Joe Fortune and Fintan Fortune were first cousins of the Quinns.

Note: The Aunt Maggie mentioned above was not a true aunt of W.F. Toolan. She was probably the Margaret Codd, born 21st January, 1857, daughter of James Codd of Knottown and Anne Rossiter, most likely a first cousin of Bridget Codd Toolan.
